Pauline Tangiora is a Maori elder from the Rongomaiwahine Tribe on the East Coast of the North Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Mrs. Tangiora continuously works on issues including Health- Environment and Indigenous Issues, Spiritual Well-being and Peace.

She is a former President and currently Vice President of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Aotearoa/New Zealand and the former Regional Women's Representative for the World Council for Indigenous Peoples.

Hafsat Abiola-Costello, Nigeria

Hafsat Abiola-Costello, Nigeria

Hafsat Abiola is a human and civil rights campaigner.

She is founder of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), which seeks to strengthen civil society and promote democracy in Nigeria.

She is the daughter of the late Chief Moshood Abiola, President Elect of Nigeria who died in prison in 1995.

Jared Duval, 24, was the National Director of the Sierra Student Coalition (SSC), the national student chapter of the Sierra Club and the largest student environmental organization in America.

He is the author of the forthcoming book, ‘Keeping Our Promise’.

His writing focuses on practicing democracy in ways that can realize historic opportunities for human progress.

Ylva Lindberg is founder and managing director of SIGLA where she is a strategy consultant specialising in advising the business sector on responsibility and global challenges.

She has ten years business experience, including as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, business development in Russia, communication and brand building and corporate responsibility strategy for KLP Insurance in Norway.

Dr. Scilla Elworthy, Great Britain

Dr. Scilla Elworthy, Great Britain

Dr. Scilla Elworthy founded the Oxford Research Group (ORG), an independent NGO which seeks to develop effective methods whereby people can bring about positive change on issues of national and international security by non-violent means.

Since 2005 she has been an adviser to The Elders initiative, and in 2007 was appointed a member of the World Future Council and of the International Task Force on Preventive Diplomacy.

Her most recent book is 'Making Terrorism History', co-authored with Gabrielle Rifkind.

David Krieger, USA

David Krieger is a founder and since 1982 the president of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation.

Under his leadership, the Foundation has initiated many innovative projects for building peace, strengthening international law and abolishing nuclear weapons.

He is the author or editor of 15 books and hundreds of articles on peace in the Nuclear Age.

Dr. Tewolde Berhan Gebre Egziabher is Director General Ethiopia's Environmental Protection Authority.

During the 1990s Tewolde put much of his energy into negotiations at the various biodiversity-related fora, especially the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

In this time he built up a strong group of well-prepared African negotiators who began to take the lead in the G77 and China Group.

Cyd Ho is a Broadcaster, Civil Rights Activist, and former full-time councillor of Hong Kong's Legislative Council serving between 1998 and 2004.

She is well-known for promoting universal suffrage, rule of law, human rights, and equal opportunity, as well as advancement in the interests of women, homosexuals and other minority groups.

She is a Council of Europe Goodwill Ambassador.

Rama Mani is an internationally respected figure in the area of security policy and has devoted her career to a reform of security policy.

She has taught at many different universities and is currently course instructor at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy which offers executive training for diplomats, public officials and security officers.

Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, Canada

Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, Canada

Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger serves as senior legal advisor to the UN and countries in the Americas, Africa and Asia to implement sustainable development treaties on trade, investment, biodiversity and climate change.

She has earned sixteen national commendations for her justice work.

Ms Cordonier Segger trains Supreme Court Judges and lectures at Oxford, Cambridge, McGill, Victoria and Chile law faculties, also for the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Rome.

Dr. Ibrahim Abouleish established a comprehensive development initiative, SEKEM in 1977 which aims to set out a blueprint for the healthy corporation of the 21st century.

SEKEM has grown exponentially into a nationally renowned enterprise and market leader of organic products and phyto-pharmaceuticals which are now also exported to Europe and the USA.

Dr. Katiana Orluc, USA

Dr. Katiana Orluc worked for the European Commission as an external expert on intercultural dialogue between East and West.

During her time with the Commission she was involved in the reconstruction of Iraq and the Palestinian Territories as well as the peace process in the Middle East.

Dr. Orluc is currently a visiting scholar at Harvard University and a political consultant/advisor for Citigroup International.

Dr. Shiva has contributed in fundamental ways to changing the practice and paradigms of agriculture and food.

Her books, 'The Violence of Green Revolution' and 'Monocultures of the Mind' have become basic challenges to the dominant paradigm of non-sustainable, reductionist agricultural practices.

In 1991, she founded Navdanya, a national movement to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources, especially native seeds.

Prof Motoyuki Suzuki was Vice-Rector of the United Nations University from 1998 until his retirement in March 2003.

Prof. Suzuki is actively involved in eco-restructuring initiatives.

He is Principal Researcher on the project 'Achievement of Zero-Emission Oriented Material Cycle Systems' leading a team of 70 researchers funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education.

He is also co-founder of the burgeoning World Social Forum (WSF) – a large conference event, parallel to the World Economic Forum in Davos, to share the various insights of those from around the world who are working for alternatives to 'world domination by capital, within the parameters of neoliberalism'.
