Dr. Rama Mani discusses Climate Protection and Peace with students at Levana Primary School

In the end of May Dr. Rama Mani, a treasured member of the World Future Council journeyed to South Africa to lend her expertise on peace and justice to the International Journal on Transitional Justice. Since it was Dr. Mani’s deep desire to hear the views and concerns of young people in South Africa, she used the opportunity to visit a primary school in Cape Town.

She was invited to speak with the 7th grade of Levana Primary School, one of the Eco-Schools KidsCall has recently been in touch with. Dr. Mani was very moved by what students had to say:

“During our two hours together, I was profoundly deeply touched to learn about all the issues that deeply concerned the children attending the Levana Primary School, both in their own communities as well as in the world all around them. While they have a strong sense of care for their own community and strongly express the wish to live in a community that is peaceful, prosperous and clean, they also have a strong wish to work towards improving the planet and saving it from climate chaos.”

During the session the children wrote down and discussed the things they love most about our planet, and the things that worry them the most. The students also gave her the letters they had written to G8+5 leaders, participating in the KidsCall campaign.

Reflecting upon her full timetable in South Africa, Dr. Mani says: “There is no doubt that my visit to your school was the highlight of my stay in South Africa in May 2008.“

Thank you Dr. Mani, for taking the concerns of the young generation seriously!
